Not a lot of time this afternoon. The paying job is getting in the way of writing, and promoting my writing.
I did want to make a referral, though. If you have not yet checked out QueryTracker, you should. There are probably other sites like it, but I don’t know of them. QueryTracker maintains a database of literary agents, including their latest contact information, whether they are taking new writers, how they prefer to be contacted (email, snail mail, etc.), the genres they handle, their website, their blog if they have one, and other handy stuff you should know. There is also a website app you can use to track queries, although I confess I have not yet used it.
Use QueryTracker as your initial search vehicle, but check out the agent’s website before you contact them.
If you are of the school of self-publishing, Query Tracker is still useful. TheQueryTracker blog has all sorts of useful information from across the writing blogosphere. It is a good place to find the best writing blogs.
In the category of pet words and phrases (this from a few blog posts ago), also try to eliminate the word just, and the phrase going to. You will end up with stronger writing and you will cut lots of useless words.
Back to work. See ya’ later.
