I have an addiction. It’s called buying books. My shelves hold way more than I can read. I’m a book store junkie. I should own stock in Amazon. I know all the secondhand bookstores, Goodwill stores and flea markets where I can get the best used books.
I saw this article in the Los Angeles Times is last week, though, and realize there is a treatment. It’s called the Little Free Library movement. A library on your doorstep. Sounds interesting. You place this box on your yard at the street, fill it with books, and a sign that says, “Take one, leave one, or leave one later.” Or something to that effect.
I live in a condominium complex, which will give it a different slant. The pessimistic side of me says that the idiots in the neighborhood will vandalize it, but I am willing to try.
I know some of my neighbors love to read as much as me. Like it says in the article, it will be interesting to see what gets taken and what people leave as a replacement. I checked on Facebook. Some of the free libraries maintain their own sites. Lots of activity on Twitter, too.
Of course, now I also have an excuse for Mrs. WhatIfYouCouldNotFail.com when I pick up a few extra books. “They’re for the free library, baby.”
I’ll keep you posted on the progress.
Who knows? Maybe one day you will find one of my novels in there.
See ya’ later.
